چکیده

Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is an auxiliary protein of DNA • @polymerase-• Ý • @ that • @is • @ synthesized • @ during • @ the • @ late • @G1 • @ phase through the S phase of cell proliferation. The expression of PCNA correlates strongly with cell proliferation. In the present study, employing NC-012, which is an anti-human PCNA monoclonal antibody, we performed immunohistochemical staining on specimens obtained from 71 new prostatic carcinoma patients by needle biopsy. We analyzed the results of PCNA immunoreactivity for correlation with the prognosis of the patients. The positive staining rate was 0~11.4% for prostatic carcinoma, while it was 0~2.6% in 10 cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy. The PCNA-positive rate tended to be high in cases of moderately to poorly differentiated prostatic carcinoma, but it was not significant. With regard to the prognosis, it was found that the prognosis tended to be worse in the PCNA-positive cases compared with the PCNA-negative cases. Further, multivariate survival analysis of six parameters (i. e., the patient's age, histological grade, clinical stage, serum prostatic acid phosphatase, initial treatment and the PCNA-positive rate) revealed that the clinical stage, histological grade and the PCNA-positive rate were the first, second and third most significant prognostic parameters, respectively.

E-Cadherin in Relation with the Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen of the Bilharzia Associ-ated and Non-Associated Urinary Bladder Carcinoma

Background: E-cadherin is a trans-membrane glycoprotein that plays a critical role in many aspects of cell adhesion as well as establishment and maintenance of epithelial cell polarity. Loss of the adhesive function of E-cadherin seems to promote invasive and metastatic properties of neoplastic cells. Objectives: The present study is a retrospective study aiming to evaluate the loss of E-cadher...

Comparison of the Expression Level of P53 and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA) Genes in the Inflamed and Non-Inflamed Dentigerous Cysts

Background & Aims: The role of P53 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) genes in inflamed and non-inflamed odontogenic cysts is related to cell proliferation but it is unclear. The aim of this study was immunohistochemical evaluation of P53 and PCNA expression in inflamed and non-inflamed dentigerous cysts Methods: In the present study, 23 dentigerous cysts (12 inflamed and 11 non-infl...

Expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in biopsy and autopsy specimens of gastric carcinoma.

UNLABELLED Although proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is known to be an indicator of malignant potential in tumors, the biological and clinicopathological significance of PCNA in tumor tissue is controversial. METHODS Immunohistochemical expression of PCNA was examined in 58 gastric carcinoma tissues obtained at autopsy to test the clinicopathological significance. In addition, in 24 ...

Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and p53 in epithelial dysplasia and squamous cell carcinoma of oral mucosa--a marker for poor tumor differentiation, increasing nuclear atypia and invasiveness?

The immunohistochemical expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and p53 was investigated in 9 cases of epithelial dysplasia and 38 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity. The intensity of immunoreactivity for each marker was assessed using a semiquantitative grading system, and was correlated with tumor differentiation, nuclear atypia and the patterns of invasive ma...

Prognostic significance of proliferating cell nuclear antigen-positive growth fraction in gastric adenomas.

The proliferative activity of gastric adenomas from 18 patients (42 endoscopic procedures) was compared with follow-up results. These cases were gastric adenomas proven by follow-up with repeated endoscopic procedures for more than 2 years, or were confirmed as gastric adenocarcinoma thereafter by histopathologic examination. Among the eighteen cases, nine showed carcinoma in the subsequent bio...
